From October 25 to 28, the Chilean Society of Infectology will hold the XXXVII Chilean Congress of Infectology at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago. At this event, Carlos Palma (Red Salud UC) will be exhibiting his research “CYTOMEGALOVIRUS VIRAL LOAD: COMPARISON BETWEEN TWO AUTOMATED PLATFORMS COBAS® 4800 ROCHE and ELITE INGENIUS®”.
The study – in which, in addition to Carlos Palma, Marcela Ferres, Constanza Martínez, Belén Leyton, Constanza Maldonado and our Customer Service Manager, Marcela Morales, participated – comparatively evaluated the performance in the quantification of CMV viral loads in 2 automated real-time PCR platforms, concluding that the CMV viral load of the ELITe InGenius® equipment is a good tool for monitoring patients in control, being comparable with the Cobas® Roche equipment. Likewise, it was concluded that the sample volume used in the ELITe platform is smaller, which favors its use in pediatric patients[1].
Regarding the importance of participating in this scientific event by disseminating research findings, Carlos Palma comments, “I think it is pertinent to send it to a congress, because as a laboratory we are constantly generating information and sometimes we just need the time to analyze it and be able to generate data with sufficient support for decision-making. With this data, we are certain that an ELITe result in a patient being monitored with CMV viral load is similar to that used routinely. For an external laboratory, it is important to know that this option is available in case their sample inflow allows them to implement it.”
On the other hand, Marcela Morales tells us about the need to carry out these investigations at a territorial level: “Although we bring products that are validated at an international level, it is always important to land and evaluate their use in samples of Chilean patients. Although there is significant research that confirms that what you are designing is useful for the largest population, local studies are essential. What most validates the use of a kit is precisely that, local evaluation, the solution to the problems here.”
Conferences are great venues for sharing new scientific findings, and at Microbac we are aware of this. We know that continuous research provides visibility at a national level, while also extending to our clients, giving them security regarding the products we offer.
At Microbac, we want to be more than a supplier, we also want to be a partner in studies! Congratulations to Carlos Palma and his research team, we wish him the best of luck at the conference and we hope to continue contributing to the scientific study of laboratories in Chile.
